Making a jewellery box

Boxes and caskets were very common in Egypt and were part of everyday life. Children will be inspired by objects in the
to decorate a recycled box using acrylic paint.

Modelling a beetle with its name

Hieroglyphic writing has always fascinated us. This is the subject of the workshop. The children will observe the writing,
understand its mechanism (a mixture of ideograms and phonetic signs) and then write their first name in hieroglyphic form
on the belly of an earthen beetle.

Drawing Egyptian gods on real papyrus

Papyrus was a common writing medium in Egypt. We’ll be talking about papyrus and the legends associated with the various gods. A
using gouache, we will represent them on real papyrus.

Painting on plaster with pigments

Today’s gouache is quite similar to ancient paint: it is gum arabic mixed with pigment. The children will
will have the opportunity to make the mixture and try it out on plasterboard, like the ancient Egyptian painters.

Imagining a sarcophagus lid

The children will work around large sheets of paper and design a sarcophagus lid (illustration on the front page: the same workshop carried out at the Cinquantenaire by
the same workshop held at Cinquantenaire by 5-year-olds). Please note that this workshop must be held on the floor.

Making a small piece of jewellery with several strands of pearls

Egyptian jewelry as found and depicted consists of several rows of fine beads. Children can make their own, using beads of a size suited to their age and fine motor skills.
